Junji Ito - Boy from Secret of the Haunted Mansion

A really nasty guy from the works of Junji Ito.

Whenever I used to google Ito, this guy always came up and scared me so much I had to scroll right past him. He's just so extremely nasty looking and one of the worst/best drawings I think Ito has made. The build up in the manga is also really good. My goal was to make something equally as intense and I think I got it :)

Started out in ZBrush but figured I needed to make some actual hair for him so I took him into Houdini to make a groom. Somewhere along the way I just decided to do shading and rendering in Houdini as a challenge to learn the program. Started rendering with Mantra but switched over to Karma and had to rebuild some of the materials in MaterialX and Karma Hair-shaders. Fun to work with when you get the hang of it.

Did a tiny bit of Photoshopping at the end just to remove some highlights and fix up some orange parts of his hair.

Found out his name is Binzo Tsujii, so there's that.
